Tsumiki no Ie / La Maison en Petits Cubes / The House of Small Cubes

12 min. – Animation, Short, Drama

As his town is flooded by water, an old man is forced to add additional levels onto his home with bricks (cubes) in order to stay dry. But when he accidentally drops his favorite smoking pipe into the lower levels of his home, his search for the pipe eventually makes him relive scenes from his eventful life.

A short, sweet, emotional drama with some solid metaphor. Time may take many things from us, it may give us many sorrows as well as happy memories. But it also teaches us to move on in life. As the old man dives underwater, he relives all the happy memories he had throughout his life. He may have wished to stay there and forever keep those in mind. He may have even wished to die, leaving behind all the sorrow and loneliness. But he decides to move on. He teaches us one of the most important things in life. Something which we must always keep in mind. No matter where we live or how old we are.

Won the Oscar for ‘Best Short-film, animated’ in 2009 and The Annecy Cristal in 2008.

NY Comic Con to Screen Mass Effect, 1st Berserk Film

The official schedule for New York Comic Con lists that the event will screen both the Mass Effect: Paragon Lost animated film and the first Berserk film, Berserk: The Golden Age Arc I – The Egg of the King.

The game developer Electronic Arts and its subsidiary BioWare, the North American distributor FUNimation Entertainment, and the anime studio Production I.G are partnering with T.O. Entertainment to produce the Mass Effect: Paragon Lostfilm.

Mass Effect: Paragon Lost will serve as a prequel to the Mass Effect 3 role-playing game, which Electronic Arts released on the PC and PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 consoles. According to Funimation, Mass Effect: Paragon Lost “follows the early career of Alliance Marine, James Vega. Vega leads an elite Special Forces squad into battle against a mysterious alien threat known as The Collectors. Stationed at a colony in a remote star system, Vega and his soldiers must protect the civilians from a ruthless invasion determined to capture the population for unknown purposes.” Funimation streamed an 85-second English-dubbed trailer for the film earlier this month. Funimation will release the film on DVD and Blu-ray Disc on December 28.
